Here is my list of 7 Popular countries to visit that will leave you with the “WOW” factor that we all love and look for.

India

India is overwhelming if you are just starting to travel but this is definitely a place to go backpack. India is a whole other world and you will feel like you are in another dimension. If you are the kind of person that prefer beach destinations, take a look at the region of Goa. You can rent a little beach hut directly on the beach! This make India a very popular countries to visit.

What to see? The religious city of Varanasi, the hippie town of Pushkar, the mountainous city of Mcleod Ganj, the beach region of Goa and of course Agra to see the famous Taj Mahal.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is beach paradise, literally and that is one of the main reason why it’s one of the most popular countries to visit. If you are the kind of traveler that needs to unwind and relax… Sri Lanka is the place to go. You can also visit the spice gardens and I highly recommend to take a tour at the ancient city of Sigiriya.

Costs? A little bit pricier than India but not that much, this is a very budget friendly country.

Thailand

Who never heard of Thailand? This country is clearly one of the most popular countries to visit. Thailand is really a good place to start backpacking because it is cheap, budget friendly and you have a lot to see. Let’s mention the food… oh my, the food is divine. Don’t forget to visit the many temples there, especially the Temple of Dawn; Wat Arun.

What to see? The great city of Bangkok, Phi Phi Islands (like in the movie The Beach!), Wat Arun the temple of dawn, Phang Nga Bay near Phuket, Khao Yai National park, full moon party, Songkran festival in the backpacker town of Chiang Mai and of course the amazing street food.

Turkey

Turkey is really an underrated country with a striking beauty. The people in Turkey plays a great part in this, they are nice, generous and very curious about you. The food is great, the sightseeing is unbelievable and it’s a backpacker paradise. Cappadocia reminds me of the Flintstones city and this part of the country alone made Turkey on of the most popular countries to visit.

What to see? The big city of Istanbul, the ruins of Ani, Cappadocia, the beach of the Butterfly Valley and try the regional food.

Costs? Around $45 US per day, which is still a bargain when traveling on a budget!

Guatemala

Guatemala is one of the gems of Central America. There is a lot to do and see and Guatemala is often overlooked because of its cousin Mexico. You can visit the ancient city of Tikal to witness the Mayan architecture or visit the fabulous Lago de Atitlan and much more!

South Africa

South Africa is very large, as big as France and Spain combined. Subtropical weather in the northern part and arid desert in the center, South Africa is an incredibly diverse country. Go visit the Kruger national park to see animals like lions, hyenas, rhinos, zebra and elephants or you can do some whale watching!

What to see? The city of Cape Town, Kruger national park, hike in the dragon mountain of Drakensberg, follow the wine routes, Take a photo on Cape Point, Go Whale watching

Costs? A bit pricier but well worth it! Around $40-60 US per day

New Zealand

I kept this one at the end because it has a special place in my heart. You want diversity? You travel to New Zealand. How about skiing in the morning, kayaking in the afternoon and relax on the beach while eating on the beach? That’s New Zealand.

What to see? Visit the Auckland zoo, bath your feet in the mud pools and volcano geyser in Rotorua, hike Tongariro Crossing and see the Mount Doom of Lord of the rings, explore Waitomo Caves, Milford Sound, Glaciers and much more.

Costs? On a super tight budget, prepare $40 US per day but with all the activities I would say around $80 US per day.

That’s it! My 7 popular countries to visit! You won’t have the place for yourself but it is worth it. I hope that helped.

What about you? Which country would you visit? Is there any country that you would like to visit and you would like to make an article about it? Do you have any budget limitations?
